Kyle’s childhood home is one block west of Waverly Road. Kyle’s family includes Army, Navy, and Air Force veterans, Teamsters, an uncle in the UAW, a cousin working in elder care, a medical assistant, and volunteer firefighter. Kyle graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2016 with a degree in Secondary Education and Group Social Studies (History, Economics, Government).
From September 2016 to December 2018 Kyle taught 7th-10th grade Social Studies at J.W. Sexton Highschool. Working as a teacher Kyle learned first hand the realities students, teachers, and their families face every day. Kyle left Sexton at the end of 2018 after a visit to the doctor revealed disordered eating.
Since leaving Sexton Kyle; advocated for climate change legislation in Washington D.C., marched and attended rallies with Black Lives Matter in Lansing, served 2 years as Co-Chair of the Greater Lansing Democratic Socialists of America, knocked over 5,000 doors for progressive candidates in city, state, and federal elections, registered MSU students to vote in 2022, and continues to volunteer with Rent is Too Damn High toward a Lansing and a Michigan where everyone has access to safe, secure, dignified housing.
Now, Kyle delivers pizza at Cottage Inn and is working with Michigan United Action to get out the vote this November.
