Sandhill Cranes are native to Michigan’s wetlands and are the oldest living species of bird on Earth.
One summer volunteering at Wildside Wildlife Rehabilitation there were baby Sandhill Cranes fresh out the egg in the incubator. They quickly sprouted baby hairs and grew a big fluffy coat.
It wasn’t long though they shed that coat, grew feathers and a big ass forehead. Kyle took the cranes for walks around the grounds so they could feel the air under their wings. One day Kyle arrived to the news, another volunteer took the cranes on a walk and they flew away…
But that was what we were here to do.
The Sandhill Crane is a symbol of service and a symbol of the cycle of life.
We’re not here to talk about birds though, these are people’s lives we’re talking about.
